Initiatives

Initiatives are projects which might or might not happen. Use PMWeb Initiative records to gather, store, and analyze project metadata. Link an initiative to one or more Portfolio Planning Worksheets to perform what-if analysis. When a project is approved for further development, click a button to automatically create budget, funding, and commitment records in the PMWeb Cost Management module.

RECORD TABS

4. RECORD TABS

In addition to the standard record tabs, Initiatives also have two special ones:

  • Estimate Tab - This tab allows you to link one or more estimate records to the initiative. The linked estimate lines can be in addition to, or instead of, lines entered on the Details tab. Estimate lines are included in the Totals section in the header of the initiative record and in the Generate functions described in Initiatives Header Toolbar. All fields in the table are read-only.

Click the Link Estimate(s) button to open the Link Estimate(s) dialog:

The dialog displays all estimate records for the initiative. Place a check in the first column to link the estimate to the initiative and click the OK button. The dialog closes and the lines from the linked estimate(s) appear in the table on the Estimate tab. To unlink one or more estimates, reopen the Link Estimate(s) dialog, uncheck them, and click the OK button.

  • Schedule Tab - This tab allows you to display a linked schedule. You cannot edit the schedule from this tab. Click the Link Schedule button to open the Schedule dialog:

The dialog displays all schedule records for the initiative. Click anywhere on one of the schedule lines to select it and close the dialog. The schedule then appears on the Schedule tab. To unlink a schedule, open the Schedule dialog again and click on the "-- No Selection --" line.
