Getting Started With PMWeb 3D Viewer

Introduction

PMWeb 3D Viewer works directly with Autodesk© Forge, a cloud based software product. To get started follow these steps:

6. Create and save a Model Manager record
7. On the Details tab of the Model Manager record, do one of these:
a. Drag & drop a 3D model file in the green rectangle
b. Click the Or Browse button to select a file from your device
c. Click the Or Attach button to select a file from PMWeb Document Manager
8. Click the View Model button. In the dialog that appears confirm that you wish to upload the selected file to Forge. When the file has finished uploading another dialog appears. Click the View button to dismiss the dialog and load the model in the Model Manager record Details tab. From then on, each time the Details tab is loaded in PMWeb the interactive model view will be loaded as well.

Important Considerations

· How it works: When you upload a 3D model file through PMWeb it is stored in the cloud on the Forge Website and Forge creates a Web optimized version of the file.  This lightweight version is used by the PMWeb 3D Viewer to view and interact with the model.
· The PMWeb 3D Viewer and Forge require a WebGL-canvas compatible browser:
· While the Forge platform is capable of reading and converting many 3D model formats, Autodesk recommends uploading files in .dwfx format to streamline upload time and minimize Forge storage requirements.
· Only files uploaded to Forge through the PMWeb interface can be used in the PMWeb 3D Viewer.
· The PMWeb 3D Viewer can also be launched from Attachments tabs and Document Manager records. If the file is in a recognized 3D model format an icon appears next to it. Click the icon to initiate the upload process described above. After the file has gone through the one-time upload process the icon will change to enabled. Clicking the icon will open the PMWeb 3D Viewer with the model loaded for an interactive session.
